It Had A Good Run

Filed under: Personal — by teofilo @ 6:45 pm

So it looks like I’ll finally have to replace the computer that I’ve had for almost seven years.  It’s been getting increasingly slow and frustrating recently, and last night it finally just stopped connecting to the internet entirely.  I tried it out with an ethernet cable today to see if it was just a problem with the wireless, but it wouldn’t connect that way either, and in addition the battery wouldn’t hold a charge for five minutes after having been plugged in for weeks.  I’m not going to get rid of the thing right now, since until it dies entirely I can still use it for stuff that doesn’t require an internet connection, but I will need to get a new one.  Any suggestions on what I should get?  Cost is probably the most important factor.

  1. Are you just bored, Teo? And trying to bait everyone into a Mac v PC battle royale? (As a studenty type like yourself, I’d get a 13″ MacBook Pro — but I guess I don’t know if you mean desk or lap top. Or if you’d very much prefer a PC.)

  2. Not just bored, no. Laptop is what I’m looking for. “Starts at $1199” is not.

  3. I bought a Dell 17″ laptop last summer for about $1000, and it has a fast processor and lots of memory. So far so good.
