So things are going great with the new girlfriend (we’ve even changed our Facebook relationship statuses!), but there’s on little issue that makes things a little, um, odd: her first name is the same as my sister’s. It’s a common name, so this isn’t really all that surprising, but it can make talking about one or the other of them (with, say, my mom) a bit confusing.

When I was in college, my boyfriend and my sister’s boyfriend had the same name, with the result that although that boyfriend and I obviously split and I married someone else, her boyfriend is still known as ‘Calasis’s [Name]’ or ‘the other [name.]

I have a friend who has the same name as his brother in law–his sister’s husband. Everyone just uses first and last names and that minimizes the confusion.

Heh. My wife and sister have the same name. My sister (who is 3 months older) refers to my wife as “Rachel, Jr.”

Senior year of college, I lived with another Lizard, so I was ‘Breath’ and she was ‘Lastname’. That same year, we had another housemate named Nick, and I was briefly dating, but considering for a much longer time, another Nick. The distinction between them came down to a head gesture — “Nick. Not Nick [head jerk, initially in the direction of housemate-Nick’s room, but it devolved to a generic twitch], Nick.” I don’t recommend this method. Or that relationship.

My mom’s brother, my stepfather, my stepbrother’s father, and my stepfather’s best friend are all named Jim. Two of the wives in question are named Deb.
I have three brothers named Ben, Will, and Matt. I have dated boys with all three of those names.
The weirdest one I know of is my best friend whose parents got divorced and who now has a mother named Jeanne and also a stepmother named Jeanne. We call them “old Jeanne” and “new Jeanne” (behind their backs)
I just call people by whatever adjective pops into my head, it’s way easier. Hey! You! Brown sweater! Or “cowboy” which is appropriate in almost all situations.

Ooh another good one was in college I had two housemates, Erin and Aaron. That’s all well and good here in computeytextland, but in talking it was confusticating so they were named Erin Girl and Aaron Boy for the rest of our academic careers.
Also they dated each OTHER for a while, which I thought was kinda spooky but hey. To each his or her own.
