Interesting

I’ve been taking a break from online dating recently and haven’t been checking the sites very often, but I logged into Nerve yesterday and saw that someone had winked at me a couple days earlier.  It’s a girl whose profile I had looked at on what was I guess the last time I logged in, a few days before, and I assume she saw that I had viewed her and was intrigued.

Her profile’s kind of smart-alecky and doesn’t give a whole lot of insight into her personality, and the one picture she has up is from a weird angle that makes it hard to tell what she looks like, so I wasn’t too interested in her before.  This obviously changes things, but I’m not sure how much; I can’t tell if we really have much in common or anything.  So now what?  Should I wink back?  Message her?  (What would I even say?)  Do nothing?  Help me, online dating mavens of the blogosphere.

  1. Send her a two-line e-mail. Megan had a good example a few threads back.

    Winking back is too low-stakes.

  2. Hey there Miss,

I don’t suppose you’d want to show a boy who’s back from college where to get a good ice cream cone?

    XOXOXO!!!! I

  5. Okay, will do. I was leaning in that direction, but I wanted to check with you guys first.

  6. If you really like her, you can add more Xs and Os. And exclamation points.

  7. So if I’m going to do a two-liner, is it better to do a general “what’s up?” or to reference something specific in her profile?

  10. Did you use “It are my heart icon”? That’s gold.

  11. No, I didn’t. Maybe that’s why she hasn’t written back.

  12. I will say that cut-n-pasting in a long excerpt from “One Fish Two Fish”, up to and then including the bit about “the Yink who winks”, did not work for me in this situation.

Even though the winking girl’s tagline asked “wanna make out?” in a Dr. Seuss-style rhyme.
