Good Times

Ben Wolfson’s sister apparently has a friend whom Ben’s family calls “KR” despite the fact that those are not her initials and bear, in Ben’s words, “only a passing resemblance” to her name. This reminds me of an incident that happened when I was in high school.

I had a female friend who, for some unaccountable reason, one day decided to start calling one of our male friends “MC” despite the fact that those were not his initials. The original idea was that the meaning of the nickname was a secret, but it quickly became known that the letters stood for “Mondo Cock” (there were persistent rumors). In revenge for this, MC decided that she would henceforth be known as “CR.” The secret of what that stood for was kept suprisingly well for quite a long time, even though her girlfriends consistently tried to pry the information out of those of us who knew. Not knowing drove her nuts, and she was constantly begging to be told. At one point she even looked through the dictionary trying to figure out what the two letters could stand for.

(Click through for the surprising answer.)

They didn’t stand for anything. Boy was she pissed when she found out.

  4. Good story, teo. A surprising number of my friends had nicknames in high school. But we weren’t innovative enough to use them for such delicious vengeance. Well-played.
