It’s Been Great

Filed under: Personal,Urban Living — by teofilo @ 5:21 pm

Much as I’ve loved living in the city this summer, my time here is at an end.  Tomorrow I will be leaving and returning to school in a decidedly non-urban area.  I don’t know when I’ll have consistent internet access set up, so I may be offline for a bit.

  1. Really? That seems so soon. Don’t universities usually start around Labor Day? Or are you going back early for work/research/etc.? (I know I always had to go back 2 weeks or so early because I was an R.A.)

(I can be annoyingly nosy so feel free not to answer if you don’t want to say.)

  2. Classes start next Thursday. This is on the early side, but not at all unusual for universities on the semester system.

  3. I looked at my alma mater and they don’t start until the Wednesday before Labor Day, as I remembered. (And a lot of students skip that week and don’t show up until after the holiday.) Since my school was also on semesters, part of it could be the difference between going to school in the oppressively hot South vs. Not The South.

  4. Regional differences certainly play a role (we have an unusually long winter break), but there’s a range of start times and late August is well within it.

  5. My alma mater always started in the August 20s. One year we apparently had the longest fall semester in America. I think the last finals were in the December 20s. I think I had one of them, too. Not so great, I must say.

  6. Wow eb, you went to college in the 20’s? I had no idea you were so old.
