The restaurants in the Var are really expensive and touristy, so I'd recommend skipping them (though the Var itself is definitely worth seeing, of course). Most of the places I ate were in the area of Szabadsag Ter in Pest. There are some good Italian and Indian places in that area, as well as the standard Hungarian places. I heard good things about a new place called Hummus Bar, specializing in hummus, but I never managed to get over there.
