I’d Rather Just Walk

Filed under: Personal — by teofilo @ 10:12 pm

So you know what’s a huge pain in the ass?  Owning a car.  On a related note, I need to install a front license plate on a car that’s recently been registered in a state that requires them after many years of being registered in a state that doesn’t.  It seems like there should be some sort of device to hold the plate on, but there isn’t.  Do I have to just buy one?

  1. There should already be holes in the front bumper for attaching the plate with screws. If the actual screws aren’t in there already, you should be able to pick them up at any auto supply store.

  2. I just screwed mine directly into the bumper, making my own holes. But I Am Not A Role Model.

On a related note, I will be car-free in EXACTLY one month! Woo hoo!

  3. I bought some screws, but they don’t seem to be the right size. There are holes, but there doesn’t seem to be anything behind them to screw into; I guess I just need to find screws that are big enough.

  4. Duct tape works well.

  5. Also: There are holes, but there doesn’t seem to be anything behind them to screw into — this is usually an indication that nuts / bolt pairs are called for rather than screws.

  6. Good call. I’ll pick some up tomorrow.

  7. I did what Becks did, using I guess self-tapping screws and bolts. (Oh, wait, you already have holes, so you don’t need the self-tapping screws.)

  8. Yeah, I put it on with bolts; worked like a charm. Thanks, internets!
